Abstract
Sometimes a researcher’s expression of sense of shame based on ethical reflection may be perceived by the research subject as power to express such emotion. While crossing the two worlds may be a task for researchers to carry out through their qualitative research, the road to the other world itself may have been blocked from the beginning to the research subjects. Survived Women Create the World takes an original and experimental style of documentary writing. The author, sociologist of South Korea, assumes from the beginning that it is impossible to completely resolve or overcome the distance between researcher and the research subject. She seeks to clarify the researcher’s limitation by honestly revealing predictable risks in the research process. Only then does the researcher, who has abandoned the possibility of utter empathy, realizes that the research subjects, believed to be sustaining the most harsh lives, are creating their own world in their own way.
