Abstract
This article aims to illuminate the historical origins of the war in the Ukraine in 2022. 1991 saw that the Soviet Union broke up and the Ukraine became an independent sovereign state. On the question of its relationship with the Western World it suffered from the serious internal disruptions. In the meantime the Russian Federation would not allow it to be closer to the European Union and NATO. Such a situation led to the sharp conflicts between both nations. In the end Russia invaded the Ukraine, and the Western World denounced the Russian president Vladimir Putin and supported the Ukraine’s desperate war effort. To be sure, the outbreak of the war in the Ukraine in 1922 is a result of the conflicts between the two nations in the past thirty years. For the wider and deeper understanding of its causes, however, the war should be put into the even longer historical contexts of the relationship between the Great Russians and the Ukrainian people. The research into the history of the Rus as well as the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union is of the great help to those who are eager to find the origins of the military conflict in 1922 between Russia and the Ukraine.
