In this article, I investigate how women in various spectrums between the progressive and the conservative sides in South Korean society disappeared before and after the Korean War and how the results appeared. Specifically, I first examine the gender consciousnesses and practices of the progressive and the conservative women during the period before and after the Liberation, and, as an example, the women’s responses to the abolition of licensed prostitution and the concubine. Next, I explore the roles and activities of the women of Daehan Buinhwe(Korean Women’s Association) and Daehan Yoja Cheongnyondan (Korean Women’s Youth Corps), which became half-official and half-civilian after the establishment of the divisional government. They used other civilian women as sexual tools, had military training, or acted as subjects of sexual violence without a sense of gender equality. As a result, feminist sexual consciousness and sexual culture were distorted or delayed in Korean society. In other words, Korean women’s organizations, which were half-official and half-civilian during the Japanese occupation, supported the Japanese emperor and the sexual mobilizations in wartime. In that way, half-official and half-civilian Korean women’s organizations during the Korean War also resulted in delaying feminism by assisting wartime sexual violences.
